Mississippi Entomological Museum

The American Burying Beetle (Nicrophorus americanus) is listed as a threatened species of beetle found in North America also known as the Giant Carrion Beetle. As the name implies, the beetle requires carrion (dead animals) for both eating and reproduction. This specimen was collected for the Entomological Museum in 1924.
